I remenber a few years ago hearing about Sista Fa one of the first Senegalese female MC working on a documentary to educate people about FGM.The film project is entitled “Saraba” & has been shown at various festivals around the world. Sista Fa was one of the very first female hip hop artist to be in the spotlight ,indeed back in the early 2000 . She met her Austrian hubby in Dakar when he was conducting a documentary . Love happened and they moved to Berlin and now are parents to a daughter. What I like about Sister Fa’s story is that she once she got in Berlin, she took advantages of the the opportunities in the Western world to refine her sound & put together a band. Her sound is a mix of hip hop, jazz, folk and african music. It’s good to have artists like her who do …

2012” MY AFRICA IS” Upcoming Documentary !
Posté par Fabulafricana
I totally get what executive producer Nosarieme Garrick is trying non will do with this 8 Parts documentary (the series will be available mid 2013) on what Africans are really doing.I gets the project so much because that’s what my webbie is about; showing our talents and our thirst for growth.Nosa has written for publications like Afripop,Sahara Reports so she knows what she’s talking about. In the trailer she goes to her home country Nigeria and meets up with a nigerian photography collective and follows them as they carry on with their projects. In the kickstarter video she interviews people like Sean Jacobs the founder of “Africa is a country”, Tigist Selam an Ethiopian German actress and other fabulous african media key players .So the plan is to start shooting in Africa starting October, meeting young people with cool ideas making it and bringing social change in our continent. There’s a big …

Shea butter, come on is there something better? I beg to differ , my daily beauty routine usually includes a bit of shea butter. Myriam Moma an architecture graduate student, model and entrepreneur created her skincare line in 2006 & since then she’s been working hard developing and promoting Yamerra. You can find everything face, hair and skin related, some of the products I would be interested in trying are the facial serum (shea butter+Vitamins A & E), body butters (mango, lemongrass, tangerine grapefruit, jasmine). I was checking out her blog where the Tanzanian -Nigerian sister gives good health tips, I picked up a few:) Myriam also sells under Yamerra kanga fabric (tanzanian fabric) which look comfortable and beautiful. From a business point of view I dig the fact that she promotes her line throughout artisan craft trade shows throughout the country, she is def’ “focused on her focus” to quote …

2012Surah of the Day: Al Takathur!
Posté par Fabulafricana
Good morning you guyz, hope all is great. The holy month of Ramadan started almost a week ago. I read this Surah this morning and felt that whether we are Budhist, Christians, Muslims we all could get something out of it ..I certainly did.Sometimes we do get lost in the quest of external approval, the quest of “yes he or she is badd” …These few lines def’ resonated inside of me and I’ll try to remenber that during my day.Wishing you a wonderful and productive day, Happy Wednesday ….Let’s Go!! With the Name of Allah,The Most Gracioux, the Ever Merciful.I commence to read Surah Al Takathur.1-Mankind your vying with one another to excel in multiplying wordly possesions diverts you from God and the true values of life.2 -Until on your death you embrace the graves.3 – Nay, you should never hanker after wordly gains, power and position, you shall come to …

Hello guys:) how are you all? Alhamdoulilah I’m doing good, I’ve been running & running some more trying to find interesting things to share with you all.Yesterday Yacine and I went to the first meeting hosted by the Senegalese Young Women Association and it was a nice little event.I’ve learned to what extent young professional women face sexual harassment here, it’s crazy. It’s one of the reasons why Mamy Fall, the President founded this association.Se was fed up with the inapropriate male executive and decision makers were treating women, basically in order to get a deal done you had 2 sometimes (but enough times )close your eyes on their behaviors.I’ve heard stories of women who would go meet a male client, leave his office after the apointment and later on receive phone calls or text messages suggesting sexual unwanted invites , yes people it’s that crazy. The association would like to give …

Every once in a while, this African Jeanne D’arc’s name pops up in my emails under the” Global Fund for Women” emails. I was always tempted to throw her emails to the trash, however what caught my attention is the personal manner in which she starts every single one of her emails. While the rest of the introduction part varies following the topic she wants to cover, I always feel like it’s directed to me& that she needs my full attention and help (great marketing tool). For instance, one of the many emails I received started with “Dear Marieme ,Imagine walking three hours, just to collect water in a bucket – water which is often contaminated with sewerage and the same water where wild and domestic animals drink from. Another one of her email started of by “Dear Marieme, when a woman is widowed in many parts of Africa, she …
